  Trainer devastated after appeal fails to stop her being held on bail over death of ex-boyfriend
  
  The mother of a 20-year-old woman who died on Tuesday after she hanged herself at a psychiatric hospital said she was devastated by the decision by the state to hold her until she recovers from her heart condition.
  
  Maria Raula said she had spoken to the woman's mother and was devastated by the decision, which she called the worst thing she had seen happen to her own child in the past 14 months.
  
  "I'm heartbroken, I'm very devastated, I'm devastated for her mother," she said.
  
  She said the decision "raises even more questions than it answers".
  
  She said that her mother had given up her position as the secretary of the local community union which represented other families and elderly people in the facility. She said her mother had told them she wanted to be discharged at the earliest opportunity so her family's life could continue.
  
  But Raula said that, while it was clear her daughter would be out soon, the reason for her being held could not possibly be medical.
  
  Maria said her daughter had been under the care of the psychiatric hospital from March 23 to 26. She said she had not heard from her since that first visit.
  
  In a video of the events posted online, Raula said the guard holding her daughter at 3.45am could not have known that her daughter was planning suicide.
  
  She said: "She could not even say her name. She was trying to look her own dead in the eye and say it. But her name is not there.
  
  "She must have put the lid on it. It was very scary. There was a huge cordon around her as they held her, we didn't know who she could be because she was there. We thought she was dead because they took it so quick. If someone did this to her in front of you or in front of you that could mean your sister, friend, child. She can't be safe here and there is an enormous fear in families in the town."
  
  Raula's husband David Raula said the girl had been on medication for her anxiety and had been under close observation since December 2016, but it was too late.
  
  "She has a massive anxiety problem. This just goes to show how badly she is on medication and I know the parents and people who know them are very disturbed," he said.
  
  Raula said she had spoken to the girl's mother, mother of her boyfriend's 10-year-old daughter and her sister.
